Tourney #3
Poker night, Nov 1, Mark's basement.

Usually in my recaps I poke fun at a bunch of guys who I really don't know all that well, all in good fun. I'm not going to do that this month. Charlie said he was in prison, and I believe him. This month I'm going to focus on the champion only.

First, let me say that Pete played extremely well and took a well deserved 2nd place. His play was bold, fantastic, unpredictable and often beautiful. I'm not just saying that because I broke the trowel that he loaned me. Mark missed a great deal of it busting his ass up and down the steps making us popcorn chicken which was also bold and fantastic.

Remember last year when we were all scared of Jim and his constant cashing? Well, there's a new sheriff in town, and he wants the drinking age lowered. EJ manhandled the final table on his way to a great victory, and did so with skill well beyond his years. His well timed "all ins" were the poker equivalent of a bitch slap to Pete and many others; his pimp hand was indeed strong, just not all wrinkled and hairy knuckled like the rest of us. One time, he pushed all in, with a look on his face like the dog just farted, and everyone knew he didn't have shit and everyone folded and I don't even have a dog. That takes onions.

So, here's my point. This kid has a gift. He's taking money off grown men and Leo on a regular basis like it's nothing, all while typing god knows what into his phone. This gift can't be wasted. EJ, if I were you, to hell with college.....you've gotta go pro and do so as soon as you possibly can. Do you see the money some pros make?? Think about how good you could be if you can simply focus your efforts on poker for the next 5 years or so, without the distraction of school work. Does your mom need more proof? Bring her next time.....let her see what you can do. Pete don't get that channel, so it's all good. This is your destiny. And, if you don't make it, you can always take $200 off us morons once a month.....lord knows we'll be here.

Yours in Christ,

Well, we came back from the summer break with a so so game last Saturday, and it was good to see everyone again. That 53rd card that I slipped into the deck did the trick and carried me to victory. Because I won, I won't write too much about the actual game, because that would make me look like a dick. So, instead I thought it would be more appropriate to send a few random thoughts and pick on everyone else.

- First of all, thanks to Mark for hosting, providing snacks, and just generally waiting on us all night. Steve usually has his kids do that so he can concentrate on playing cards. I suppose I should have mentioned that to Mark on Saturday.
- I usually pick on Leo for his play, his homophobic attitude, or just that crazy look he gets on his face, but not this time. Thanks to Leo for calling out a straight that I didn't see. I guess that would be ironic, if I wasn't just making up the statement about him being a homophobe.
- Everyone comments on what a great player Jim is, which I suppose makes sense, seeing as he's always winning and whatnot. Some people come to play cards, and some come to drink and eat, and Jim clearly does the former. But, I seem to have a great deal of success at doing both. Nobody else wins as many tourny's half in the bag like I do. And, even when I crap out early, I still have a great deal of success getting drunk...so where's the respect?
- Ed, we all know you peed all over the seat.
- Fuckin Speedwagon

Congrats to Jim for his 4th win this season. And, I believe we have a clear cut winner for the POTY and who can contest it? The man has cashed 5 times with 4 first place finishes. My personal thoughts...a great race between Jim & I but a well deserved win!

So, to the few that played last night (only 14 members) watch out for Mauriz and is K8. It seemed to win every time (except when I got it of course). But, Jim was still able to grind it out even again all the K8's.

Thanks to Mark for hosting and congrats on breaking your streak. He won the side table game. It had been quite some time for him.

See ya next time.

Congrats to Jim....3 wins out of 8 tourneys so far. That is great! Tremendous play, Jim.

So, I was out early and cannot recall that many great hands other than the hands I lost. And, it seemed to be a lot. Who would have thought you could win with pocket 3's but lose with pocket Q's & pocket K's. Go figure. Ahhh, the great game of poker.

Thanks to Mark E. for hosting. Look forward to seeing everyone next month.

In the immortal words of Chris K. on the ride last night..."I have to place tonight". Not only did he place but he finished in 1st place. Very well done.

I cannot comment on many hands as I was not in it long enough this time. Although if I got the type of hands I was getting at the side table I think we would have seen some different results.

Thanks so much to Steve for hosting. A great time as always.

See ya next month.

Congrats to Mike G. for a very nice win. It was the deepest we went on blinds with 4 players still remaining. I think it was 800-1600 and there were still the 4 of us.

The killer hand of the night had to be when Charlie turned ouver a full house and EJ replies "I have quads".

Thanks so much to Mark for hosting. See ya next month.
